In This Article we will explain how the RSD, Deviation and Average are calculated in Excel. Here we are explained very clearly and step by step for your easy understanding and we also included the screen shot of excel sheet and highlighted its each formula. Kindly read till the end and if any suggestion please share your feedback in comment box. Let’s start.
Step 1: We have selected around 10 different values to
calculate the RSD, Standard deviation and average. Below the numbers are
entered in the Excel. Left side Serial number for understanding and right side
values.
Step 2: First we have to calculate the average of values by typing
the formula as shown in the below figure. Average(G4:G13) Then press
enter key on computer key board.
Step 3: Now we have got the average of values and the average is 145.1 as shown in the below figure
Step 4: Now we have to add a new column to the right and each row we have to type the average of values as shown in the below figure.
Step 5: Now we have to one more column to the next and name as (Value – Average) as shown in below figure. Then each row we have to apply the formula (=G4-H54) then press enter in key board
Step 6: Now drag down to apply the formula in all rows as shown in the below figure.
Step 7: Now add one more column to the next and give as name Square of (Value-Average) as shown in the below figure and apply the formula (=I4*I4) press enter.
Step 8: Now drag down the formula to apply in all rows as shown in the figure.
Step 9: Now calculate the average of the Square of (Values – Average) as shown in the fig applying the average formula =Average(J4:J13) press enter key.
Step 10: Now bottom to the average value calculate the square root of the above by applying the formula =SQRT(J14) as shown in the below figure and it is called as Standard deviation.
Step 11: And the standard deviation is 10.33 as
shown in the figure.
Average = 145.1
Standard Deviation = 10.33
Now we need to calculate the RSD (%)
Standard Deviation Formula is = (STANDARD
DEVIATION/AVERAGE)*100
Apply the formula in below cell as =(J15/J14)*100 then
press enter key as shown in the figure.
Step 13: Now we find out the RSD (%) or Relative
Standard Deviation of Selected values is 7.118 as shown in the
figure.
